peep jousting

peeps, originally uploaded by staarkidd.

Leli organized the first ever alliance peep jousting tournament. We hand selected our peep warriors, gave them toothpick lances, and gave them 25 seconds to joust in the microwave. Josh's peep exploded. My peep fell over and took the lance to the heart by Leli's peep. Matt's peep struck Brian's peep but there was no puncture wound-just a sticky toothpick. I think we need to learn more about high altitude peep jousting before we try again next Easter.

Swazi-sale

sale, originally uploaded by staarkidd.

Teresa and Jan are planning to go to Swaziland on a missions trip this summer. With soaring ticket prices, our Friday night "Life Group" decided to throw a fundraiser: a yard sale. Everyone donated all kinds of great items and baked goods. It rained most of the day but somehow managed to make enough to really help both of our girls. It was fun to spend the day together.

more than money can buy

Yard Sales are a typically duds on rainy days. joel tried to help us gain customer interest despite the rain. He showed off a lovely zebra print dress and a donated Queer Eye book. I'm not sure what sort of customers he was trying to attract, but we gave him an "A" for Effort!

Turkey party!

No, this isn't Thanksgiving. In light of Jim and Dan's trip to Turkey, Selin and Kutay came over for dinner to prep the guys for their trip. Both Selin and Kutay are Turkish and attended the University that Jim is visiting. Selin is also an engineer and works with Jim. Kutay recently finished his PhD at Drexel and will be working from home and keeping an eye on their baby who is due very soon! They offered some great cultural and travel tips. As i write this, Jim and Dan are in Turkey. Dan, going his fourth or fifth day wearing the same clothes due to a lost bag!

kombucha

I'm not sure what i love about this picture. perhaps its the color of the onion. more likely it is the kombucha in the foreground. If you haven't tried kombucha, it is a hideous and disgusting beverage, yet strangely addictive. Despite Jim's loathing of it, he bought me this bottle simply because i really like the disgusting stuff. i found it to be a wonderful gesture of thoughtfulness.

Happy birthday!

JimsBday, originally uploaded by staarkidd.

In an early celebration of Jim's birthday, we went on a photo scavenger hunt. I will explain more about the adventure a few posts down. This is our self-portrait as we were setting out for our first destination!

symmetry

The following set of photos are the ones from Jim's camera. It was really fascinating to look at the same things and then compare perspectives. I've been told that symmetrical things are the most beautiful. I noticed that Jim notices the symmetry in many things. It's somehow soothing.

Plane

Amish women are often referred to as plain girls. I think i prefer being a plane girl.

Bookers

JimsRanch, originally uploaded by staarkidd.

We stumbled upon this eccentric gateway and couldn't help but to stop and play. Again, Jim takes some interesting shots that i didn't think to take.

Paint Mines

Jim gets some great longshots of the paint mines. This was our second destination in our adventure and will remain a beautiful memory for me!

Happy is yellow

The glow of the rocks in the setting sun is one of my favorite colors.

haikuing

As Jim played with the light and landscape, i wrote a little haiku.

eye C u

It's weird to see your own eye. I totally dig the reflection of Jim in the center of my iris. very cool photo!

co-pilot

I must say that i make a darn good co-pilot - at least better than a flight attendant! The food at our final destination (Solo's restaurant) was pretty sad but the atmosphere more than made up for it!

propelling

This was a fun little photoshop job of splicing two photos together. :) technology is fun.

The other day in church, i noticed that some man looked like the top of his head was cut out of the frame of a picture. in my mind, i began reconstructing his head using photoshop tools. I think i was trying to Command Z (undo) something before i realized that i was looking at real life. His head was fine. The problem was his hair. It was bushy on the sides and flat on top. It's scary when you find yourself trying to edit reality on an imaginary keyboard in your mind!

I presented Jim with three of these cards with clues and coordinates. With the GPS system and a map, he led us to the destination. It was a fun modern treasure hunt!
